My name is Mary Ellen Thomas. I am very excited to be joining the Havana team this year! Parent participation and communication is essential to having a great school year. I strongly encourage parent communication and partnership with the teacher. I look forward to working as a team with you on your child's educational journey!
I graduated from Northeastern State University with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. I also hold my Elementary Education degree, as well as a Master's of Education in School Administration. I possess these degrees in the state of Oklahoma, as well as the state of Illinois. In addition, I am also certified as a Project Lead the Way Launch Lead Teacher.
I have always enjoyed being actively involved within my school district and community. Previously I was a union representative for our education facility, a PTO representative for the upper grade levels, and actively involved in the process of adopting new math curriculum for a district.
I have been on multiple committees that plan events and train teachers. I had the privilege of sitting on the Title I site improvement committee as my previous school site became a Title I school. I have collaborated on the culture committee which, among other things, regulates behavioral management techniques and resources for teachers throughout the school. I also mentored teachers in other grade levels.
Throughout the years I have accumulated experience in working in diverse fields. I have taught multiple grade levels. My focus areas have been early childhood, lower elementary, upper elementary, and the college level. I have also worked in the medical field and as both a residential and commercial property manager.
Again, I am very excited to be embarking on this new journey at Havana public schools. I look forward to working with your students this upcoming year!
